Saving the Leatherback Turtles
(Culebra, Puerto Rico)
The leatherback is the largest living turtle and is so distinctive that it is placed in its own separate family, Dermochelys. It can reach a weight of 750kg and up to 2.2 meters long.
"Proyecto Tinglado" provided local conservation employment opportunities, technical support, equipment and funding for the Marine Turtle Conservation Project as well as educational volunteer opportunities for the general public interested in participating in the conservation of this magnificent animal that is on the endangered species list.
